Blue Dream Shrimp

Blue Dream Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi var. “Blue Dream”) are a stunning freshwater shrimp variety known for their deep, rich blue coloration. A favorite among aquarists for their beauty and low-maintenance care, these shrimp add a vivid splash of color to any aquarium, especially when kept in planted tanks with dark substrates that enhance their bold hues.

Blue Dream Shrimp are peaceful, social creatures that thrive in groups and contribute to a tank’s cleanliness by grazing on algae, biofilm, and leftover food. Their striking color is the result of selective breeding, and higher-grade individuals display a more consistent, opaque blue throughout their bodies.

To keep Blue Dream Shrimp healthy and vibrant, stable water conditions are key. Ideal parameters include:
    •    Temperature: 68–78°F (20–25.5°C)
    •    pH: 6.5–7.5
    •    GH (General Hardness): 6–8 dGH
    •    KH (Carbonate Hardness): 3–6 dKH
    •    Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm
    •    Nitrate: <20 ppm

These shrimp do best in fully cycled aquariums with low flow, shrimp-safe filters, and regular water changes. Avoid copper-based medications, as copper is harmful to them. Providing live plants, mosses, and hiding spots will not only mimic their natural environment but also support breeding and reduce stress.

With proper care, Blue Dream Shrimp live for 1–2 years and can reproduce readily in the home aquarium, making them a colorful and rewarding addition for hobbyists of all experience levels.
