Red Rili Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi var. “Red Rili”) are a unique and eye-catching freshwater shrimp variety, known for their translucent bodies accented with bright red markings. Unlike solid-colored shrimp, Red Rilis feature a striking pattern where the head and tail are red, while the midsection remains clear or slightly tinted—creating a bold contrast that stands out beautifully in planted tanks.
These shrimp are peaceful, active scavengers that enjoy grazing on algae, biofilm, and leftover food. They do best in groups, where they display more natural behaviors and create a dynamic, colorful presence in the aquarium.
To keep Red Rili Shrimp healthy and vibrant, consistent water parameters are essential. Ideal water conditions include:
• Temperature: 68–78°F (20–25.5°C)
• pH: 6.5–7.5
• GH (General Hardness): 6–8 dGH
• KH (Carbonate Hardness): 3–6 dKH
• Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm
• Nitrate: <20 ppm
Red Rilis are sensitive to poor water quality, so a fully cycled tank, gentle filtration, and regular maintenance are key. Copper-based treatments should be avoided, as copper is toxic to shrimp. They thrive in planted aquariums with plenty of hiding spots like moss, driftwood, or shrimp tubes—especially helpful during molting.
