These shrimp are peaceful, hardy, and easy to care for, making them a great choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists. They are active scavengers, constantly grazing on algae, biofilm, and detritus, helping to naturally keep the tank clean.
For Golden Back Shrimp to thrive and show off their best coloration, stable water conditions are important. Ideal parameters include:
• Temperature: 68–78°F (20–25.5°C)
• pH: 6.5–7.5
• GH (General Hardness): 6–8 dGH
• KH (Carbonate Hardness): 3–6 dKH
• Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm
• Nitrate: <20 ppm
They prefer a well-established, cycled aquarium with gentle filtration, clean water, and regular maintenance. Avoid copper-based medications, as copper is harmful to all shrimp. Planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots—like moss, rocks, or leaf litter—help reduce stress and encourage natural behavior.
Golden Back Shrimp typically live 1–2 years and breed readily under good conditions, making them not only beautiful but also a sustainable and rewarding addition to any freshwater community tank.
